Chiropractic during Pregnancy
Chiropractic is extremely beneficial during pregnancy. Structurally, the pelvic inlet (where the baby passes through) is largest when the pelvis is balanced. That should be enough reason on its own... but there is more. If the pelvis is not balanced the abdominals are not balanced, so this causes areas of tension and can restrict the baby's movements, possibly preventing the baby from turning into a good position for labour. If they don't have the room, they can't move around as easily.
Neurologically, in labour a mother needs good nerve supply to various organs, like the uterus, and to blood vessels, and the diaphragm, and for appropriate hormonal release. When your body is not balanced, nerves can be affected to these areas and Chiropractors are the only practitioners that can help with this.
Chiropractic can also be beneficial for pregnant women who don't want to take medications during pregnancy for all those niggles and complaints, like indigestion, sciatica, back pain and swollen joints.
Because Chiropractic can help to make pregnancy and labour easier or more comfortable, it has been shown to reduce the need for cesarean sections, pain relief and induction. It has been shown that the average labour for women under regular Chiropractic care is about 2/3 the time of other women, and with fewer complications.
